Cooling water

Stable cooling with control over corrosion, scale and microbiology.

Treatment programmes for open cooling systems, closed loops and critical heat exchangers.

System approach

Treatment tailored to your installation

An effective cooling-water programme maintains the balance between cycles of concentration, material protection, microbiological control and water consumption.

Signals to investigate

  • Declining heat transfer
  • Corrosion products or localised attack
  • Deposits in pipes and heat exchangers
  • Fluctuating conductivity or dosing

Available approaches

Integrated product, equipment and support

Corrosion and scale inhibition

Product selection based on water chemistry, materials and operating conditions.

Discuss suitability

Closed-system protection

For selected closed loops containing steel, copper alloys or mixed materials.

Discuss suitability

Monitoring & adjustment

Trend analysis, verification measurements and clear action limits.

Film-forming amines

Two product routes, each with its own function

The film-forming technology targets installation surfaces. Product selection, dosing and monitoring are tailored to water chemistry, materials, temperature, system volume and existing deposits.

MexProtect™ corrosion inhibitor

For a hydrophobic protective film on metal surfaces in selected open and closed industrial cooling circuits. MexProtect™ is marketed without a biocidal claim.

Film-forming amine biocide

A separate biocide for selected industrial cooling-water systems where biofilm and biological fouling need to be controlled. Use only in accordance with the current authorisation and product label.

Baseline measurement and verification

We monitor corrosion coupons or LPR, iron and copper transport, pressure drop, filter loading, heat transfer and relevant microbiological parameters.

Make selection, dosing and performance verifiable

A treatment programme is complete only when it is clear in advance what is assessed, how it is applied and which measurements will be used to verify performance.

What we assess technically

  • Water balance, cycles of concentration and variation in make-up and blowdown water
  • Materials, heat load and local temperatures in critical heat exchangers
  • Interaction between corrosion, deposits, suspended solids and microbiology
  • Dosing, blowdown control, injection points, filtration and operational hygiene

What we monitor during operation

  • Conductivity, cycles of concentration, pH, temperature, make-up and blowdown
  • Product residual or tracer, actual pump output and inventory consumption
  • Corrosion coupons or LPR, metal transport and visual inspections
  • Microbiological indicators, pressure drop, filter loading and heat transfer

Frequently asked questions

Technical choices require system context

These answers provide initial direction. The final approach follows from the installation data and product documentation.

What is the difference between an open and a closed cooling circuit?

An open recirculating system loses water through evaporation and concentrates salts. A closed circuit exchanges far less water, but leakage, oxygen ingress and mixed materials remain relevant.

Can one chemical product solve every cooling-water problem?

Not reliably without a system assessment. Corrosion, scale, suspended solids and microbiology interact; cleaning, filtration or operational changes may also be required.

Does a biocide replace Legionella management for a wet cooling tower?

No. An authorised biocide may form part of the water-treatment programme, but it does not replace the risk assessment, management plan, checks and logbook required by the applicable rules.

A specific challenge?

Discuss your water system with a specialist.

Briefly describe what you observe in the installation. Together, we will determine the most logical first step.
